Burnt Mountain Center (BMC) provides quality services to individuals with developmental disabilities and to their families. From newly graduated high school seniors, BMC provides a supportive environment that affords opportunities for them to grow as they make choices and decisions regarding their lives. The Center is located at 515 Pioneer Rd, Jasper, on the street just past Chattahoochee Tech.
Project Description –Ten volunteers will work in 2 LBC project teams to transform existing storage areas into safer, cleaner and more functional spaces for the Center’s programs. This project will provide an immediate and lasting benefit by allowing the Burnt Mountain Center to make better use of its space, protect valuable program materials and keep frequently used items accessible.
Team 1: Storage Installation & Space Improvement — 5 volunteers
Empty and prepare the designated storage area.
Assemble and position shelving units.
Install storage lockers if approved and feasible.
Create a safe solution for storing folding lawn chairs, such as wall-mounted hooks, vertical chair racks or heavy-duty shelving.
Anchor units where necessary and confirm that walkways and exits remain clear.
Move heavier bins and supplies onto their assigned shelves.
Team 2: Sorting, Organizing & Garment Storage — 5 volunteers
Sort arts and crafts materials by type, use and condition.
Discard unusable items with staff approval and place surplus items in a designated donation area.
Organize supplies in clear, labeled bins.
Inventory graduation robes, costumes and accessories.
Assemble rolling garment racks and group garments by type, size or production.
Place smaller costume pieces and accessories in labeled containers.
Create simple labels or an inventory sheet to help staff maintain the system
